Once you’ve got your domain and built some sort of traffic you’ll need to get involved with as many affiliate programs as possible to get some money paying ads.  Basically, you’ll be advertising on your website by placing a small ad that directs click through traffic  to the affiliate’s website and this “click” is tracked so you get paid for it.  The amount you get paid can vary from as little as one penny to as much as 30 dollars per click.   You can also get paid per number of “referrals.”  Here are few of the more popular affiliate programs.

Google Adsense This is probably one of the more widely used programs out there.    These ads use keywords from your website to target ads to your website.  You can customized the size and colors of the ads to fit your site and can assign tracking information to the ads so you know where your “click” income is being generated.

Affiliate Scout Here’s a good collection of affiliates.  The list here is well organized so you can get an affiliate that’s related to your site.  The site directs you to the affiliate’s website so you deal directly with the affiliate.

Adbrite - A great site to get ads automatically displayed on your site.   Sign up, set up your account, describe your site and get the ad code to display ads on your site.

LinkShare.com - Definitely a great site to be affiliated with.   Easy to apply to various big name companies.  Probably not the easiest to be approved for, but if your website is up to par, definitely a great site to be partnered with.

CJ.com -  Commission Junction has lots of top name companies.  Not all are open to new publishers but there a lots still available.  I like the format here.  Advertisers are listed by category and each is given a rating on how well they generate revenue for the publisher.  Everything is managed onsite so you don’t get redirected to each advertisers site when you apply to each affiliate program like you do with afilliate scout.  Very good program to be affiliated with.  Some of the big names are bestbuy.com, buy.com, Apple, Samsung and others.

More to come…..
